From: Pierre Mettetal

Hello, I had just finished reading that disgust sham novel "The
Navigator of New York" and I became curious as to how much of it could
be true.

That led me to my internet search and some quite detailed
descriptions of the book written by Mr. Pearce - which I gather is the
most fictitious look into the lives of both Cook and Peary. I was
amazed first of all to discover that this feud actually existed- and
obviously is still going on because of Cook's daughter.

As a Nova Scotian, born in St. John's, Newfoundland,I can tell you that any
Newfoundlander is not only goegrapically closer to the North ( if not
actually in it ! ) but timewise we are linked to it by our not very
distant ancestors- ( mine having had both fishing and sealing ships up
until the 1930's ) I was also interested at how deceitfully Mr.
Johnston worked in his fictional character, Devlin Stead, to tell this
shameful racist, anti-establishment story. I understand why you
yourself and all the anti-Cook people responding to your site are so
vitriolic in your condemnation of the book. Yes it weaves together
racism, hatred, lies and fiction, but I have read many other novels
that have done the same. But if anything Mr. Johnston supports the
fact that Cook lied about his achievements. Well, obviously then he
didn't achieve anything except fraud.

What I didn't know until I
started researching was that it has become more and more fashionable
for racist hate mongers to destroy Henson by asserting that Peary also
did not really reach the pole. And even if we could ignore the Cookite
propaganda about who did or did not reach the North Pole - or agree to
disagree- there are certain things that are true about both men's
conduct. Peary was an honest, hard working, long suffering, brilliant
engineer who was a hero to his men and a legend to the Inuit. But
Cook's character was so low that by today's standards he was
disgusting.

When you talk derisely about how an author might abuse
artistic license and debase a public ( historical ) figure to promote
his career, we must not forget the fun someone down the road will have
with Richard Nixon or Bill Clinton. The way Peary treated his men and
the Eskimos is amazingly enlightened for that time! Cook, calling them
his "boreal pygmies" and taking advantage of them in trades for ivory
while a passenger on a boozed up millionaire's yacht who made his
money off of gambling parlors was more typical of that era. In fact,
this man Bradley was later arrested in a gambling den scandal.

It may
not be pleasant but one shouldn't try to rewrite history. By the way
Frederick Cook was certainly not a real doctor. Cook, in his
re-writing truth after the fact habit claimed he had treated Peary on
at least two occasions. That is a laugh as what do you treat someone
for with flu virus 100 years ago? Even today we have no cure. But Cook
would take claim for anything that made him look even the slightest
bit credible. And what I found most repulsive was what the novel did
in showing ( if you ignore the fictional Devlin Stead ) how those two
men's lives were interwoven over the course of years. It is a pity
that the average reader would have no way of knowing how little Cook
actually did and how very much Peary did. I think Cook was a passenger
only twice in his entire life to the area where the Eskimos were,
while Peary spent 18 years up there!

And Cook's attempt to steal
another person's accomplishments (his claims to have climbed McKinley,
or independently have discovered the North Pole) has modern
counterparts: that is, the two scientists who fought over being the
first to discover the Aids virus. One man tried to steal the work of
the other- and I am old enough to remember the controversy between
Salk and Sabin over the polio vaccine. The difference in these
examples are of men who were actually rivals. Cook was such a pathetic
fraud that these comparisons really do not hold up. I guess what
pleases me most is the extremely overdue , pardon the pun,
polarization, of the views expressed on this site. After the vicious
work of Cook and Vetters to get even with everyone who got in their
way this site is a fitting and well deserved payback. And your coming
from a country that embodies the freedom of speech makes it all the
more fitting.

Sincerely Pierre Mettetal, Nova Scotia

Dear Know-it-all from Nova Scotia,

Dr. Cook is ashamed of you for giving such a negative book review
to the only history-fiction novel that portrayed me the way I
wanted to be. Why if I had gone to a real college like that Peary
fellow, and been top of my class in engineering like that Peary
fellow, and if I didn't have to milk cows and been 6 feet tall
like that Peary fellow and handsome like that Peary fellow and
been selected by a nation-wide competition to be a Naval officer
like that Peary fellow, and if I had married a tall, beautiful,
educated woman from a distinguished family like that Peary fellow
did...and if I had the determination to accomplish things like
that Peary fellow instead of faking everything and scamming all
the time...well then I might have been like that fictitious
character in that history-fiction novel!

Damn you Peary lovers! My Crook Society paid a lot of money for
that novel. Shame on you for writing something that isn't fiction
about my novel.

OK, OK ! enough is enough. I appreciate the spirit of the website,
but I am a serious scholar of Yahgan, in fact am fast approaching being able
to speak the language, and trying to get endangered language grant funds
(and no, Dr. Crook, you can't have any) to help revitalize it in the
community of about 100 souls calling themselves Yahgan on Isla Navarino in
Tierra del Fuego.

But I would appreciate a serious discussion about Cook with someone who is
equally dedicated here. There is now some serious question about where the
bulk of the Bridges notes (a very large stack of bound papers according to
the family) ended up @1908 or so.

From the little I can find from published sources and the family
itself (with which I'm regularly in touch), Cook promised to have the
materials published in two years in the US and then returned, but sat on
them for a decade. Initially he apparently did send some correspondence
about it all to the Bridges family, but it pretty quickly petered out, and
that was that. Since Cook was often "elsewhere" it was impossible for the
family to keep track of him, or the status of the papers.

When Cook finally shows up in Europe, that is when the fun begins. He
must have been there for some time, as it would have taken a while for the
arrangement for publication with his old colleague Lecointe (former first
mate of the Belgica, then director of the Royal Belgian Observatory)- quite
a bit of money was set aside for this by the government (which appears
always to have taken an interest- in 1998 there was a centennial held in
Belgium of the expedition, and the King himself opened it (and of course
there were a couple of Cook-detracting papers presented).

If Cook did not object to the shift of credit after one of the
Bridges came to Belgium to argue for rightful title, as I've read, then
something must have been up. He was a tenacious streetfighting kind of guy,
and it seems unlikely he would have relinquished his hold so easily. What
did he know that nobody else did? At the same time some of the materials
ended up in the hands of Hermann Hestermann, then a young scholar, later a
professor at Hamburg. The family assumed they ALL ended up with him, after
they were initially contacted about it in the late 1920's.

The Observatory had scheduled publication of the dictionary for late
1914, an infelicitous choice of date as we now know, and Belgium was overrun
by troops. Poof! The family thought all the materials were gone. Maybe they
were. If Belgium had most of them (though some were in Hestermann's
possession), then they might well have been destroyed in the fighting.

On the other hand, back in 1908/9, did Cook in fact give over these
documents to the Observatory? Only the dictionary itself was the issue at
hand, and not the others, so why give over the entire kit?

As I've mentioned, letters to the Cook Society itself have gotten me
nowhere. No smoking gun, but logic and circumstantial evidence would
point to Cook having retained possession (though of course others might have
been his proxies). Its really too bad. Once in heavily defensive mode, I
suppose its now impossible to admit culpability, and try to rectify the
situation through good works. Saving Yahgan would be a real plus for the
soul of the man, and in my mind at least make up for a great deal of what
had gone before.

By the way, I've already checked the Ohio State library, even got copies of
some materials from them (thanks). The majority are from much later than the
time of the relevant issues, and more towards defense than anything else.
Some must also be from his daughter as they postdate the man himself.

So what's the deal with the Cook family itself? Are they completely
out of the picture? Are there any descendants?

Best,
Jess Tauber

Dr. Cook apologizes.

If I were still alive I'd be able to tell you to
whom I sold the manuscript to raise a little cash. Being dead makes
that a tad difficult.

It would be "the right thing to do" for my Crook Society to fund this.
Those SOBs are doing nothing with my trust fund except paying
themselves.

Has it been registered as a stolen antiquity?
It may appear on the rare book market and Interpol or Christies could
catch it.

Odd, I was easy to track down for 6 years at Leavenworth...

"Saving Yahgan would be a real plus for the

Saving my soul should be the full time job of those lazy old bums at
the Crook Society. Instead they leave me to the Purgatory of that SOB
Robinson and his website dedicated to calumny.
Do you know Washburn?
He wrote that wonderful book "The Dishonorable Dr. Cook"—a
real page turner. Apparently he contacted the bank that runs the trust
fund and tried to have it broken up for whatever legal reasons.
Washburn is a highly distinguished scholar; was Director of the Boston
Museum, etc. Point being that there is trust fund money, there are
descendants and board members. If you write "the Crook Society" you
are being trash canned, most likely, by old Russell Gibbons. Get past
him. Send letters to every member.

Jess Tauber
phonosemantics@earthlink.net

Hi. I have a beef with "Dr." Cook,
a personal one. For the past
five years I've been working on Yahgan, a nearly extinct native
language of Tierra del Fuego, now with only one elderly speaker left.

I've been trying my best to obtain all extant documentation on
the language in order to re-edit it for language revitalization. As
some of your readers may know, this was the language which was the
life work of Reverend Thomas Bridges, of Ushuaia (and later Estancia
Harberton) in Tierra del Fuego, who died in 1898 after verbally
contracting with Cook to have the materials published in the United
States.

Fearing their possible loss in Antarctica, Bridges wisely (so
he thought) decided not to give over the documents (which included
several version of a very massive dictionary, grammar, and many other
manuscripts dealing with other languages of the region and life habits
of the native peoples) until the return leg of the Belgica voyage. Of
course the ship ended up stuck in the ice, and Bridges died while on a
trip to Buenos Aires to meet with Argentine government officials.
After the Belgica managed to get to Punta Arenas (Magellanes), Cook
hired a boat to go to meet with the Bridges family to pick up the
materials, which were all bundled together without any inventory
remaining behind, a poor choice since no complete record thus exists
of what Cook ended up with.

It was agreed that the materials should be published and
returned to the family in the space of two years. Two years went by-
then nearly ten, with no word by Cook as to the status of the project.
Other explorers to Antarctica regularly passed through Ushuaia, and
from some of these the family learned that Cook was getting the
materials published under his own name, as his own work (save for the
small print at the bottom of the title page that Thomas Bridges had
been "instrumental in collecting the words"). Cute. This was being
done in Belgium, under the auspices of the Royal Belgian Observatory,
then under the directorship of Georges Lecointe, who had been first
mate aboard the Belgica.

The Bridges family forthwith sent off one of their sons to deal
with this and set things aright. Confronting Lecointe (@1908 or 9), it
was agreed to cut Cook out of the loop, and give Bridges fair credit
for his life's work. Belgian government money was provided, and the
publication was scheduled for late 1914. Of course WWI intervened, and
the project went into limbo. The family feared the manuscripts were
lost again.

In the late 1920's, a German linguist/anthropologist, Hermann
Hestermann, contacted the family to get further information about the
manuscript version of the dictionary he had on hand (apparently since
about 1908). Another family member went to meet with him, and this
resulted in the publication of the dictionary in 1933, though in an
extremely poorly edited version almost impossible to use due to
massive abbreviations and @10 percent printing errors, omissions, etc.
Hestermann asked the family whether he could hold on to the ms for
further study, and they agreed.

WWII broke out, and both Hestermann and the ms disappeared.
Later the family managed to have the Allied group in charge of
recovering antiquities and art stolen by the Nazis track down the ms,
and they found Hestermann, who led them to the ms. hidden in a cabinet
in an old farm house. Part of this had been lost somewhere (and this
60pp. loss may make recovery of several thousand words iffy at best).
The ms is now at the British Library, where I've visited it. The
Bridges estate has provided me with photostat copies which have
greatly helped in reconstructing the dictionary.

But there is a problem. Back around 1908, earlier in the story,
it is unclear whether the larger, final version of the dictionary ever
ended up in Belgium, or the other documents as well. Certainly the
version published in 1933 was from an earlier manuscript only 2/3 as
large as this lost one, and there is no indication that Hestermann
ever saw the larger one. So where are they? Letters to the Cook
Society have gone unanswered. I suppose this means either that they
know something I don't, or just consider this another minor irritant
to be ignored.

I know that if I were in Cook's shoes, given the controversy of
the time, I would either have sold the manuscripts off to monied
buyers, or deep-sixed them. And to hell with Bridges, the native
Yahgans and their language, or any other concerned citizen of whatever
nation. This is too bad, since the "discovery" of the manuscripts
would go far towards redeeming part of FAC's good name- Saviour of
Yahgan!

If any pro-Cook folks are reading this, take due note!!!! In
any case I've had to make use of whatever materials I've been able to
obtain, to try to reconstruct as best I can the grammar and full
dictionary of the language. The last remaining speaker of the
language, who lives on the Chilean side of Beagle Channel in the
hamlet of Villa Ukika with about 100 others who consider themselves
ethnically Yahgan (though she is the last fullblood) lost her sister
earlier this year, the only other person conversant in the language.

Revitalization of this language is going to be difficult now,
due to loss of opportunities for recording the normal give and take of
conversation (though I can manage it after a fashion, though the
living dialect is somewhat different than that documented by Bridges).
Wish me luck, though. So there you have it- my personal beef with
Frederick A. Cook, who may singlehandedly have doomed a language to
extinction. Nice addition to the resume, eh?

Dear Mr. Jess Tauber,

You had better shut up or I'll sue you for libel, slander and all that
stuff. Well, actually since I'm dead I'll have my old pals paid by my Dr. Crook Trust
Fund sue your ass just as soon as they finish suing that big mouth
Russell R. Robinson for "cyber libel" and calumny. (See my old
pal Russell Gibbons'
letter below).

Why are you so upset about that dumb missionary guy
who has been dead for over a century? Move on, man! Those
Yahgans were a smelly, dirty little species anyway. Who wants to speak
Yahgan? You must be nuts.

I think that liar Peary and his conspiracy of wealthy backers put you
up to all this nonsense!

Sincerely,

PS
I'll forgive everything you said about me and drop the cyber libel
suit if you fork over a check to purchase 25,000 share of my PPA

Dear Fred, I saw your
house on the Internet. What an eyesore! The Crook Society has lots
of cash, right? Why not buy this, restore it, and turn it into an
abortion clinic, or a drug rehab, or maybe a half way house for
criminals trying to work their way back into society like you had
to do after all those years in Leavenworth Prison?
Smitty |
|
My Dear Smitty, What a wonderful idea!
Russell, how about that? Why don't you guys fulfill the intention
of Janet Vetters will and
"... establish monuments, markers or
other memorials and create and dedicate parks or resting areas in his
honor...".
This house of mine, rotting away in Brooklyn,
would make a perfect monument! Think of all the criminals it could
help by providing them a half-way house in my name?

Dear Mr. Rusty Robinson:
After consultation with the Society's three-person Executive
Committee, it was agreed that your application and check should be
returned. It is obvious from your spurious web site and the material on Dr.
Cook that you link to your Matthew Henson site that you have no
interest in serious historical scholarship. That material you have
posted is beyond cyber libel, and is an embarrassment to any who may
encounter it.
Personally, I believe that anyone who would post such material for
viewing is basically a very sick person. I hope you seek professional
help.
At the request of several historians, our special report on
The
Tragedy of Matthew Henson has been sent to a list of Black Studies and
history departments.

Russell, Look Russell, this must be some kind of mistake. You mean I
can't be a member of your club? Did you ask Heckypooper what he
thought? I would think that he of all people would recognize the
extraordinary talents I can bring to the club just like Ted does.
Oh Russell, what's not to like with the Dr. Crook site? Embarrassment?
Russell - that was last year's site. Have you seen it since we did the makeover?
Do you have speakers? Maybe you viewed it on a crappy computer? Check
out all the new material.
Russell, I know that you're not a young man. Who is going to replace you when
you kick the bucket? Don't you see how I can write with the same
flair as you and Heckypooper? You're my main study for this style of
polar historical journalism. I'm not as manipulative as Dr. Cook, and
I know I lack his complex sentence structure but maybe with your
funding I could do better?
If you let me be a member maybe I could pitch in with some articles
for your Polar Penises magazine when you die. Who is gonna help out
Heckypooper? There is all the Janet Vetters cash flowing in and who in
the whole world but me could be a better candidate to squander it in
your place?
As for being a sick person, well I thought that was a prerequisite to
joining the club for Christ sake! After all, dear Frederick was a
sociopath and had criminal tendencies. But don't you guys have a Cook
Society medical
plan? Maybe we could all get help together? You and Ted, and me. Sort of a Cook-Polar group
therapy. Wouldn't that engender the spirit of what Dr. Crook was
really all about? Like Janet said in her Will "...to
more fully ascertain (Dr. Cook's) accomplishments and philosophy in
the hopes that others will learn of them and perhaps emulate them...".
I don't think you are emulating the good doctor by refusing me
help only the good doctor's trust fund money could provide.
Shucks Russell! I think you should reconsider.
I can't believe Janet Vetters wouldn't
want me in the club.

 Dear Sirs,
I recently discovered this method of improved igloo manufacture in
a book by Robert E. Peary.
What do you know about it?
Thank you.
Dave Dougies |
Dear Mr. Dougies,
You should know that Dr. Cook invented this method of improved shelter
construction and not that liar Peary! Dr. Cook's other arctic shelter innovation was praised by explorers of both poles. Yes, it is a documented fact that his famous "silk tent" had cube shaped compartments sewn in for this purpose and waterproofed with walrus grease. The Eskimos of both poles have long worshipped Dr. Cook for giving them this labor saving improvement on the old "hand cut block" method. (although the Eskimos of the South Pole are now extinct because Peary forbid the manufacturer to ship any more Dr. Cook tents to them and they died of exposure)
Dr. Cook's uniform ice blocks fit tightly together. These seal better to keep out fierce arctic winds, resulting in more comfortable interior sleeping arrangements. In fact, Peary stole this technique from the young Doctor! He used it to make snug igloos in which he and his Negro servant seduced innocent Eskimo women for immoral purposes.
Dr. Cook forever felt responsible and deeply saddened that his invention was used in this manner as it resulted in several unwanted love children. Peary abandoned these savage half breeds to the frozen wilds as Dr. Cook exposed in his immortal work
My Attainment of Peary's Pole. Grief stricken by Peary's abuse of his discovery Dr. Cook kept this aspect of tent design a secret.
If you continue to publicize this Cook patented method you will need to pay licensing royalties to the Crook Society.
Thank you.

Hello,
Being a polarenthousiast myself I read everything about it I can get my hands on.
So I stumbled upon your website also. In my opinion Cook did'nt reach the northpole either ...BUT... the way you put him down on your website is beyond proportion, going as far as the remarks you make about his ashes and linking him to Adolf Hitler. Reading your website I became almost in favor of a kind of censorship on the internet. The way you use your website is'nt giving information but spreading hatred against someone who is dead longer than me and you are living.
But I will keep on reading your stuff curious as I am when you will discover Cook was behind the murder of JFK and maybe disclose the fact that he used the money from the fraud to back up Osama Ben Laden. For your information I did some investigation myself about the rumours Fred being the first man on the moon, dont't go that way it seems to be a
hoax. Willie (no Cookite)

"...Reading your website I became almost in favor of a kind of censorship on the internet."
Censorship on the Internet? Now there's an idea
Fred would love! Of course you would like censorship, and you
would be the censor, right Willie? First you will need to revoke the
American Constitution and Bill of Rights. Send us a post card Willie
when you accomplish that.
The first problem is that you simply don't
want to accept that your boy Cook was a criminal fraud. A
psychologist could help you understand why you do this. Some of it may
be class hatred/racism, etc. Just as there are those who keep alive
the KKK and Nazi party, there are Dr. Cook believers. No one really
cares anymore why people have this problem. As Dr. Counter said
"Some of these people need therapy..."
The second problem is that you don't have an IQ
high enough to think for yourself. Persons below a certain IQ
level can't tell truth from fiction. This means the individual tends
to believe what the "group" tells him or her. This is why
books on UFOs and Bigfoot are so popular. Half of the population have
an IQ of 100 or below. These people will read Fred's My Attainment
of The Pole (reprinted and sold at Amazon.com) without realizing
Cook was a simply a money motivated con man and compulsive liar.
What is the truth? The truth about Fred is a
matter of historical fact. If you can't handle the portions on
this site that are satirical it is because you don't appreciate the
depth of the "Dr. Cook" pathology. This website is a fitting
presentation of that reality. Any time you may forget just read
Judge Killits sentencing remarks. That should sober you up.
While you are waiting for Internet censorship why not
explore the Cook
Society? They have even written an editorial advocating
censorship, or at least condemning us for daring to challenge their
criminal hero. You will be pleased to read how they trash the creator of this
site and the Matthew
Henson website; our legendary founder Rusty D. Robinson.
"...falsehood on the Internet"
"...certain (Afro-American web) sites are on the edge in terms of legitimacy"
Don't take my word for it, read the words of nonprofit Cook Society
director Russell W.Gibbons:

If you can't see through that agenda you may not have an IQ!

Yes, Rusty, he did have bar-b-q sauce. This is another of Dr. Cook's unrecognized achievements. During the Belgica voyage, Cook discovered that
bar-b-q sauce has remarkable antiscorbutic properties, especially when
consumed in a Dr. Cook autograph model special silk tent. Amundsen took
bottles of the stuff along. If he had left some for Scott, Scott would be
alive today (well maybe not today, but you know what I mean). Amundsen had
lots of dogs pulling each sled to get up the glacier from the Ross ice
shelf. When he got to the top, he killed about half the dogs at the
"butcher shop" so that he didn't need to feed them. When they got back to
the butcher shop, he had a big supply of frozen dog food (and some Dr.Cook's McKinley's Pride Brand BBQ sauce for any of the men who wanted to
supplement their diet with a bit of dog).
Cheers, Tom
|
Dear Recipe Historian,
So Cook used seal's blood and bottled the sauce in
the red rays of a glowing coal stove? Is that what put the high
vitamin C content in it? I never knew Amundsen
was so fond of dog meat, but Dr. Cook's sauce could be the answer.
While some have said Amundsen visited Cook in Leavenworth Prison just
to have sex with him, I never realized he was also stealing the recipe
for Dr. Cook's BehindBars-B-Q sauce.

Also - good point about Robert Scott. If he had killed a few of his
extra dogs, and had the Cook sauce it would have changed history.
Thank
you for this delicious tidbit of Cook history.

which you refer to In doing my research, imagine my surprise to find it was a hoax. The great

suffering and supreme accomplishment. If I ever get my 78 record player

Ron,
Yes, we have that recording. Very
funny. Cook reads his prepared speech of how he walked to the North
Pole. The amazing thing is he sounds so wimpy one wonders how he was
able to con his audiences. Maybe Cook was like Hitler and had a great

Hopefully we will be able to provide
this audio on the website someday. Perhaps we could mix in audience
laughter, hisses and booing. That would at least make it worth

Dear
sir,
I am
what you might call a "Cookite",...Have you ever considered
that some of your "truths" might in fact be opinions?
Etc.,
etc... (sorry, but I fell asleep reading this "Cookie rant"...and
now Ed won't return my email...)

Dear Cookite "Ed",
No. I have never considered that
anything that Fred did was my opinion. I just read it in the
history books. Being a
"Cookite", as you admit, you know that your group keeps re-writing
the facts of history to put that old "Fred" spin on it! Thank you for the
long rant about Fred. That could cure
insomnia! Are you sure you are not on the payroll of the Societe' Du
Cookie? But then you "Cookites" all sound alike to me!

Had some time to kill this weekend and
found your Fred Cook spoof website - hilarious! ...
...good stuff - what are you going
to take on next?
|
Dear Q. Cobb
You found Fred Cook a spoof? Dude!
That is all true! The crimes he did and fakery are all accurate. The
judges sentencing is a direct quote! Fred did invent the Ponzi
scheme. One of our site visitors is a Texas oil lease attorney who
read the Big Cook Book and he discovered that Fred preceded Ponzi.
No kidding! The Fred site is the only place in the world to declare
this! It is a Fredsite exclusive!
It is also true that Fred filed
lawsuits against Peary team member MacMillan after Fred was paroled!
He tried to sue anyone who published books that mentioned he had
faked his trip to the Pole. Judges tossed the lawsuits out of court.
Even more disgusting was when his daughter pleaded with 80 year old
Henson and the aged MacMillan to make public statements mitigating
Fred's phony exploration! It is true!
You might be pleased to know that
Le Societe' Du Cookie retaliated against me by adding a lengthy rant
on their site about the madman webmaster "Rusty D.
Robinson" (I have no middle initial) in which they insult the
Henson site and Peary in general. No mention of my Fred site - just
an attack on the "dupe" Henson and his racist boss, Peary.
Exactly what you'd expect from the "trust fund fueled"
descendants! I was so thrilled they roasted me in their hateful and
pathetic manner that I linked to it from the Fred Index! But I
haven't read it all. It is way too long, ridiculous, and plain
stupid...but it's the thought that counts, right?
What's next? I think we'll spoof Hitler.
Or maybe Dick Nixon, since Dick was just sent up brilliantly in that
Kirstin Dunst movie titled DICK. Bravo DICK! The kind of guy
Fred would have brown nosed.

To Whomever Maintains
This Vile Site; I wonder if anyone who writes all these vicious coments
about Mr. Cook has ever spent one night outside, much less a winter
trapped on a wooden ship by Antarctica. Amundsen praises Dr. Cook
for saving the crew of the Belgia on two seperate occasions.
Cook suggested
they eat fresh seal meat which helped prevent scurvy and later suggested
and helped cut a canal to open water which finally saved the men and
their ship. Amundsen credits him with also helping design a new style
of tent to be used on artic trips. No one will ever know who got to
the North Pole first, but Peary was known to tell a few lies himself
and a lot policticans and society types had a lot to lose if Peary
wasn't first, so who knows.
Why don't you
get a life instead of trying to tearing someone's life apart when
they can't defend themselves. By the way send us back your thoughts
after you spend your first night outside of your suburban house.
Sincerely, S.

COOKITE
RANT WINNER!
This rant has merit on these key points
1) The part about
spending a night outside is really bizarre and clever. I like the
logic: if Cook slept outside, then he must have reached the North
Pole and it mitigates fraud he committed on poor, elderly people.
2) Calling the
Dr. Crook site vile is right up our alley. Kudos on that one alone!
3) Cook had people
eat raw seal meat, so he must have been a good guy. Who cares if he
molested 12 year old Eskimo girls and robbed thousands of rural people
out of their life savings with his Ponzi scheme? At least he got someone
to eat seal meat.
Good logic. If
all the judges are in agreement then I say we award Steve and Sharon
a prize. OK? Steve/Sharon, please let me know your mailing address
so we can send your photo of Fred. Specify with or without bars. Or
if you want, send us a photo of you and we'll put you behind bars
on the site. I will in fact send you a nicely restored high resolution
inkjet print of Cook, suitable for framing or incarceration.
Seriously, Rusty

You're fucking
brilliant! I'm glad I'm not a fraud.... You should think about publishing
a book of your Cook stuff... You're a gifted satirist and researcher,
without a non-ironic bone in your body! You constantly amaze me! Give
Rusty a chin rub for me!

Dear
Devoted Ruth,
You
are referring to my listing in Yahoo! Thank you. It is about time,
in fact it is long overdue, that people learn the truth about this
"Polar Controversy" I caused. As I burn in purgatory I wish
every day that I could go back and beg forgiveness from the brave
men who really did reach the North Pole. Now, at least, the Internet
and Yahoo! can help to educate people who do not really know yet how
evil I was. Pray for my soul.

Dear Fred,
Why are people
afraid that your ashes will be used to clone you? I think you should
be cloned because Earth is running out of space to put all the people
being born and you could probably discover new land again, like Bradley
Land, where we could put all the extra population. What do you think?
Albert T. Pulsifier
|
My Beloved supported
and true believer Albert,
Actually there
is a group trying to clone me right now in Japan. (I always did love
those grinning little pigmies with almond eyes) Why? Because I carry
the strongest genetic code ever discovered for conning people.
The group plans
to make billions and billions of yen from my clone once it gets on
a computer terminal. With the Internet I can sell methane stock futures
for mining companies I plan to create on Jupiter. Sure, I'll end up
in prison, again, but the Japs figure they can just clone another
Fred when they run low on yen.
Replicatingly
yours,
Fred

Dear
Ms. Righteous,
Thank
you! Many have come to realize how evil he was since that librarian
wrote Freddy's biography. This website is a tribute to Fred's skill
in conning gullible people. Leavenworth fixed his wagon, all right.
The cons in there gave it to Fred right up the butt! They say that
after 2 years even the guards could get a blow job from him in exchange
for a pack of cigarettes.

Dear
Fred,
What
about Cook's mail fraud conviction? You probably didn't know that
by 1940, lands once owned by the P.P.A., of which Cook had been president,
were home to some of the highest producing wells in the United States.
Cook's real-estate choices were right, they just paid off too late.
Dr.
Nutso
|
Dear
Dr. Nutso,
No
kidding, they found oil in Texas? Well, I'll be darned! But what the
hell has that to do with my stock scam? I never intended to drill for
oil - it's too risky. But when I suckered folks out of their life
savings- now that was a sure thing! Why would I have waited
until 1940 to get rich? I died in 1940. Don't you see it was better
for me to have all that cash while I was young? Think man!
Graciously yours,
Fred

Dear Loyal and
True Believer,
Yes, if only they
would all read my books! You are so correct - no one on Earth can
tell a lie like I can! Please buy more copies of my books - the

Anon

Dear anon,
It is with deep
regret that I recall how Mr. Peary humiliated poor Verhoeff by putting
a hornet in his undergarments. He made me administer Verhoeff's bee
stung member in front of others. Peary's wife walked in and saw the
prostrate man screaming in pain. This contributed mightily to Verhoeff's
depression that led to his suicide. Peary must carry the stain of
that death upon his soul.

Pretty funny.
Like I said, can't wait for some Cook fan to stumble across it. On
that note maybe you need to make sure they stumble across it. How
bout emailing the cook society?
Paul

Paul
Well one Cookie
already wrote in but I can't publish it all as I don't have the
fool's consent. Maybe I should ask the Cook Society for a link to
this site? Hey, that's an idea!

Dear
sir,
I am
what you might call a "Cookite",..Have you ever considered
that some of your "truths" might in fact be opinions? If
Peary had no faith in Cook, than why did he put Cook in command at
Redcliff house while he and Astrup were away during the North
Greenland Expedition?
<snip>
Etc., etc... (sorry, but
I fell asleep reading this "Cookie rant". Ed won't return my
email...)
Ed Cookite
|
Dear
Mr. Cookite,
No,
I have never considered that the facts of history might be my opinions.
Why did Peary leave Cook in charge? Well,
he couldn't leave his wife in charge, or Matt Henson (because he
was a Negro), and Verhoeff was an inflammatory maniac. What's your
point?
Sure,
the young doctor had great bedside manner. That is why he was such
a trusted con artist. But what does 1892 have to do with
the hoaxes Cook perpetrated 20 and 30 years later?
Your ever faithful
and loving servant,
Fred
