Photoshop work
includes brightening the NASA images - they are
posted in compressed luminance form which makes them
dark. I restore the range of brightness, then crop
and remove some of the annoying flaws like things cut
in half, color splotches, etc. The Martian
Russell R.-brown is pretty well known now so I try to
balance the color channels to get it to look like,
well, Mars! Sharpening is done with selective
contrast enhancement, color saturation and tools that
accentuate tonal changes. In other words I spend up
to two hours or more on some pictures like the one
above.
