"I could never get her face out of my mind; her quiet strength, integrity and beauty lived as a ghost in me. Even today, she still haunts my soul..."

The woman shown here existed for 20 years only in my mind. The Kodachrome slide was shot at a rodeo in Rail Road Flat in 1976 but then stayed in a box until now. I could never get her face out of my mind; her quiet strength, integrity and beauty lived as a ghost in me. A few times I looked again at the slide and renewed my love for this nameless cow girl who silently flirted with me one summer afternoon.

This was the first slide I had transferred to Photo CD. She occupied just a corner of the frame, yet the picture was there - the haunting look came back to me. This picture represents hours of Photoshop experimentation and success. The very pupils of her eyes were brightened from black to brown, the overcast sky's dull light transformed into beams of light, the distracting background objects (people and a red box) taken out. By the time the photo reached this stage I was enchanted with her spirit.

One day I had the idea that we had been lovers in Wyoming 100 years ago. That is how I feel about this picture of her.

The tools of computers, cameras and software all blend into a single extension of the talents one develops as an artist. It is a journey of the spirit. Never forget that or you can get very lost.
